Here's your cute pic of the day: Seal pup kisses! The Weddell seal population of #ErebusBay, #Antarctica, has been extensively studied for over 40 years -- it's one of the longest running studies of a long-lived mammal. The Weddell seal population is healthy, stable and undisturbed by human activities, giving a good example for studies of animal population dynamics. In recent years USGS scientists have collaborated with researchers at Montana State University to conduct mathematical modeling to address demographic and ecological questions including marking and weighing newborn seal pups.
