A dramatic #sunset highlights the natural beauty of #Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes National #WildlifeRefuge along the central #California coast. The refuge protects fragile breeding habitat for two imperiled bird species: the endangered California least tern and the threatened western snowy plover. Large flocks of brown pelicans, wintering shorebirds and waterfowl also use the refuge, as do mule deer, bobcat and mountain lions. Established March 14, 1903, the Refuge System protects America’s natural heritage, while offering protected places to be outdoors. As the sun sets on today, we are excited to celebrate another year of wildlife refuges. Photo by Ian Shive, USFWS. Want more photos of wildlife refuges? Follow @USFWS. by usinterior
