The first snow of the year has fallen and daylight hours are getting ever shorter at #Sitka National Historical Park in #Alaska. That means that many of the park's species are plotting winter getaways in sunnier, warmer locales. Among those heading south are most of the humpback whales that have spent their fall fishing for herring and salmon off the coast of the park. They'll be making an almost 3,000 mile journey to spend the winter at their breeding grounds off the coast of Hawaii. Photo by #NationalPark Service. by usinterior
