Happy National #Wildlife Refuge Week! Every year, #RefugeWeek spotlights the importance of the 562 refuges across the U.S. -- helping protect wildlife, providing opportunities for recreation, and supporting local economies. Pictured here are a group of northern fur seals at the #Alaska Maritime Refuge practicing their calls. An essential habitat for marine mammals and seabirds, the Alaska Maritime Refuge’s origins date back to the time of President Teddy Roosevelt and the beginnings of the National Wildlife Refuge System in the early 1900s. Young seals (like the little guys in this photo) play and sleep in “puppy pods” while moms are at sea foraging for fish and squid. Photo by Ryan deRegnier (@usfws). #seerefuges by usinterior
