#RockyMountain National Park is home to an abundance of #wildlife. Perhaps the most famous are the #elk. Males and females are gearing up for this fall’s rutting season, one of the most magnificent displays of mating behavior. As the aspen change and the weather cools, bull elk are busy polishing their antlers and bugling to display their fitness and health to prospective female cows. Males actively defend their harems in order to secure the chance of passing their genes on to future generations. @RockyNPS's 100 years of protection have preserved not only the spectacular mountain scenery, but also the habitat and breeding grounds of the park’s wildlife. This protection gives animals a chance to be wild and free, and seeing wildlife adds to a true #RMNP wilderness experience. Hopefully you can join us this fall season and experience the rut for yourself! Photo by park volunteer Schonlau, #NationalPark Service. Want more amazing photo of wildlife at Rocky Mountain?
